My Favorite Week of the Year: The Tech Tea with Kimberly

Let me start by wishing everyone a very Happy Valentine's Day. As one who loves love, I wish you all the love your heart can hold.

Did you watch the Superbowl? I am not a huge football fan, but I LOVED the half-time show.

Guess what? I will be 50 years old on Wednesday. I remember when I thought 50 was old, but I feel amazing. Overall, I am grateful.

I have learned so much during my career. As much as I desired to go to law school, I do not regret the path that I have chosen in tech.

Career success has many different looks and I think I have had some tremendous sucess in tech. I achieved some historic things that no one will ever be able to erase, and I am more than prepared for the next phase. I allow my integrity to lead me. I am proud of it all!

Over the last five months, I prayed specifically for a few things.

  1. To grow my consulting business

  2. A remote role that would allow the flexibility needed to care for my mother

  3. The ability to work outside of the Memphis market

  4. To return to the private sector

  5. To have the ability to learn something new

  6. To feel good about the company that I work for

So far, God is 6 for 6. He actually never loses. We just have to trust that He is working everything out for our good.

The best advice I could give is to invest in yourself and treat every opportunity as if it were a classroom. What I mean by this is, spend money on furthering your knowledge. It may be degrees, certifications, LinkedIn classes, conferences, seminars, etc. Do not be afraid to invest in YOU. Also, look at jobs as a learning platform. Treat them like a course that is paying you to attend it. If it ends voluntarily or involuntarily, make sure you got their monies worth and that you leave knowing more to help you on your next assignment.

Jobs change and employers change their minds, but no one can take away the great things you bring to the table. You will always take what is inside of you with you. They will also never be able to duplicate what and how you do things. The favor assigned to you is specifically for you. No one else is you, so be great wherever you go. If things were done wrong to you, karma will handle that part. Just keep being a good person and great opportunities will always find you.

Well, I think that is all for my most favorite week of the year. I plan to party like it's 2022.

Cheers to 50, cheers to new opportunities, cheers to it all.

Thanks Sherry. I may not always start out with a positive outlook, but it is always my intention to end that way.
